Both career defining wins for Sanchez and Hopkins when they defeated the feared power punchers from Puerto Rico as the underdog despite being the champion and the bigger fighters. Out of the two which do you consider the greater win and also the more impressive performance in your opinion?

Two great victories and two great performances, for sure. In retrospect I think Hopkins's win over Trinidad cemented him a bit more in the eyes of the media and the public. The Executioner had been world middleweight champion for several years but he wasn't perceived as a fighter who could make his mark like ATG. Sanchez, on the other hand, was given a bit more consideration, at least that's my opinion, but, as I wrote above, they were two great performances and two important victories, both of which cemented these two great champions.

Sanchez's win was greater imo, for the following reasons:

    1. Gomez was 1 x weight divison/4lbs removed from his best weight. Trinidad was 2 x weight divisions/13lbs removed from his.

    2. Gomez was more dominant at SBW than Trinidad was at either WW or LMW.

    3. Gomez was p4p a greater fighter than Trinidad, imo.

These are partially, but not entirely offset, by the fact Trinidad had won a title at MW whilst Gomez hadn't fought at FW.

Sanchez over Gomez and it is not even remotely close.

All due respect to Tito, but prime Trinidad was not on par with prime Gomez. And Sanchez's performance was more dominant and brutal.

Whilst this is true Gomez never really impressed above Super Bantamweight.

I'd say Tito overall showed better form at Middleweight than Gomez did above Super Bantamweight.

I don't consider Gomez's win over Lockridge to be legit BTW its widely considered a robbery.

Yeah, Trinidad's wins over Joppy and Mayorga at MW probably trump Gomez's over Lockridge, in which, as you allude to, Wilfred was a little lucky to get the decision.

Still, imo, that's more than offset by Gomez being the GOAT just 4lbs south of the weight he fought Sanchez.

Gomez is great for what he did at SBW and Trinidad for what he did at WW. Gomez is greater and was far more dominant 4lbs south of where he fought Sanchez, than Trinidad was 13lbs south of where he fought Hopkins, and that settles it for me. Just imo, of course.

I'm going to go for the Hopkins win just because I love the parry and counter so much.

Gomez did beat Laporte to win a Featherweight title. Isn't that considered a strong win? Asking sincerely, since I never saw Laporte fight.

I thought Laporte was terrible in that fight personally but on paper yeah its a solid win.

But I've never been overly high on Laporte TBH.

He has a solid chin but alot of times he would put the ear muffs on and just be happy to lose a wide decision.

I know @salsanchezfan had a similar opinion aswell I believe.

Agreed, yeah. Laporte was maddening to watch. Very talented, good pop in his punches, but my god he would just NOT throw enough. If you have the chin to withstand getting hit by a train (and he did), then come forward and throw! What in the world are you waiting on?

Against Gomez, I gave Laporte two rounds. He let Gomez throw with impunity and despite rocking Gomez once with a right hand, wouldn’t or couldn’t follow up. Laporte said afterward he hurt his right hand and it impeded things which may or may not be true. Given his typical output though, he seems to have hurt his hands rather a lot.

I'd forgotten Gomez beat LaPorte. Yes, I'd say that is an impressive win, especially when you consider Wilfredo beat Juan more convincingly than Pedroza had 2-years before, and unlike Gomez, Eusebio was a big lump of a FW.

Trinidad had alot more setbacks than Gomez who i believe was only going up and down in weight.
