Just wanted the Classic Forum's opinion on what fight they'd have loved to have seen a 24/7 style build-up to. It can be for any reason-2 great fighters involved, antics surrounding the fight, interesting characters involved, a chance to see fighters of whom there's very little footage of.........any reason at all. Hopefully you can come up with some interesting and maybe even obscure ones.

I'll go and pick the obvious one. Imagine Louis v Schmeling 2 getting the full 24/7 treatment. The way that they'd ratchet up the tension and excitement would be amazing. It would be compelling tv for practically everyone. Now that the obvious one has been said hopefully you'll have some interesting choices. :good

Good choice. That match up really had everything. They could have really played up to the good guy v bad guy thing. Arguello would have been painted as a golden figure with poor Pryor being cast as the pantomine villian. One of my favourite legendary nights episodes too.

Johnson-Jeffries, Ali-Frazier 1 (or 3) or Ali-Liston 1 without a doubt. Tyson versus anyone just following Tyson around would be better than any of the 24/7s we've seen, these fights/Tyson would bring drama. Obvious answers really

Yes, this thread pops up once about every 10 months and it's Johnson-Jeffries; nothing really comes close in all honesty. It's in a class of it's own for this sort of thing.

A Tyson vs Bowe 24/7 might have been interesting.

The other going drinking and shagging, the other eating all the time.

Really? Don't think I've ever seen one but I'll take your word for it. Yeah Johnson v Jeffries would be a must see. Was just wondering if anyone had any ideas that aren't the norm.

Yeah, here or in general. No harm no foul a thread will usually kick up at least one good post. The point is Jeffries-Johnson is the one.

Imagine: the most lauded champion in history, the "Champion of Champions" returns to the ring amid a flourish of premature glory and a flurry of unfortunate racial overtones. The only man in the world capable - supposedly - of beating the "Ebony Fighting Machine" that Jack Johnson had become...never was such a burden placed upon the shoulders of one challanger, ever, and nor would there be again. We'd be watching Jeffries train down from 260lbs to fighting fit and appraising the astonishing pressure bearing down upon the most watched man in the world, but how much would we be able to read on that stoney face...meanwhile, in the other corner, relaxed, absolutely at home with the media and with a story for every journalist on every occasion (and more), Jack Johnson, turning in a serious training camp but determined to remain relaxed - and to needle his man without getting lynched...and to get the fight won, and to be properly prepared, in the most savage racial climate the most savagely racial of sports has ever seen.

You wouldn't ****ing wait for the link to go up, would you?

The political undertones to Ali/Frazier and Louis/Schmeling are much more interesting. Ali/Frazier had the whole Vietnam war and then there's also the topic of race with Frazier being the acceptable black man and Ali pushing for change. Louis/Schmeling had the backstory of a world war, never mind the fact it helpee change the way blacks were seen in America, forever.

Aside from all that, Ali/Frazier and Loyis/Schmeling were potentially great fights. Johnson/Jeffries has all the hype of Ibeabuchi/Vitali. Not an interesting fight.

I don't agree with that at all. They might be more interesting to you, but a black man dominating a white world, at a time when his win over Jeffries cost around 100 lives is far more interesting to me.

McGrain the cverage of Johnson vs Jeffries was akin to 24/7 these days.

Im pretty sure you could find articles of what time each guy went to the toilet everyday of there respective camps.

Yeah you can. You bloody well can. Even **** like Jeffries-Fitz has detailed, detailed accounts in mutliple newspapers of each training session...it's a god damn dream. Wish the internet would hurry up and reach levels of that kind of coverage...it's getting there.
