He was not duck, the guy had 3 shots at the big crown, and failed, in all of em, not to mention he fought most of the top guys in his era.
Good call. I'd put him right beside Charley Burley and Archie Moore as the greatest avoided fighters. Mike McCallum deserves mention, as does Jack Johnson and Harry Wills historically.
Lindell Holmes was one of the most avoided fighters on the '80s middle scene. He really struggled to get any meaningful fights against American based contenders and had to eventually move up to 168 where he was a stocky undersized fighter. Nunn especially wanted little to do with him.
kent green. the guy KO'd ali as an amatuer had obvious talents. 6'4'' green treaded water as a pro for 10 years on and off but his career fizzled out at 13-2 without moving outside of the 8 round stage. as a national golden glove champ its unusual green wasnt picked up and groomed by a mover and a shaker within the sport...
Its amazing the resume's of these so called 'avoided' fighters. They sure as hell weren't avoided by some of the best guys of the day, like the Murderer's Row, you could make a case for saying a Welterweight Burley met better competition than a Welterweight Robinson because he was avoided and had to fight 'the hard way'.
Two or three years. Any version of Tiger would have been flattened by Foster, I think he'd have beaten Torres in 66 too. He was the best light-heavy for a couple of years and I think the rest of the division knew it, hence why he was avoided like he had leprosy.
he got some bad decisions against him to, including maurio mina .i think foster would've beaten any light-heavy he could land on.
