    No.
Everyone has to have Archie Moore in the top ten, surely.

You could have Archie in your top 10, and still have ten names that were collectively not as good as the other ten.

I am not so certain to be honest.

You can produce a top 20 light heavy list, and still be using names who looked more like a top ten in another weight class, in terms of resume.

I think Janitor means you could have a top 10 of guys that didn't win the title that would be better than a top 10 of champions.

Not sure I would have Jeff Smith there as he was a middleweight mostly.

Al Gainer and Tiger Jack Fox are definitely worthy of consideration.

But wan't Joe always a light heavy? Or are you excluding pre-Root entirely? Very ruthless of you!!!

    Ok, I get ya. :good

    Yep.
I was thinking he meant ANY fighter in the "non-champ" top ten better than ANY and EVERY fighter in a top ten of champs. :good

I think yeah, you'd have to exclude anything pre-Root. The reason being you would be crediting fighters twice for the same fight, once at heavy (which it was, in that era), once for a performance "in" a division that didn't then exist.

Although as McVey, I think it was, pointed out, the first title recognition is up for grabs a bit.

    Good shouts.

Tony Shucco is a name that rarely gets mentioned.

Lou Bogash has some interesting results at the weight.

I'd tend to go for Schucco ahead of Gainer tbh, and not just the h2h thing. Rosenbloom, Olin and McCoy are rather nice supporting wins.

Yeah, I think he has a win over Braddock too - but then, I guess, so did a lot of fighters.
Wins over Lou Brouillard, when Brouillard was a top middleweight ... Lee Ramage, who some say was excellent ... and a few decent wins over good heavyweights.
Shucco must have been pretty good.

Charles and Marshall could also have won the middleweight crown too.Lloyd Marshfrom never grew beyond the modern super middleweight size.
Pattetson and Tunney are both good shouts.
McGrains list is pretty comprehensive, I'd just add Jock McAvoy and Len Harvey from the uk
