In response to the the trainers who never boxed thread...who are the greatest men in boxing to have done both? Lets say you had to score guys out of 50 for both disciplines. Who comes out best? Take Flea or Boxing News top 100 list. How many of them wen't on to train world champions.
Jack 'Chappie' Blackburn - the only man that Joe Gans refused to meet in a championship fight is worth a shout.
as a coach, apart from taking his ridiculously talented nephew, whom was already an olympic medalist, what has Roger actually done as a coach?
I dont know alot about the older ones but more recently Rob McCracken was a good boxer and he has done great stuff with Froch. Also all the work he does with the GB amateur squad, there are good few that are winning amateur medals at World level and they are also coming into the pro ranks as good boxers. Im not saying he's the greatest! :good
There's a reason Joe Frazier went to Benton for defensive advice and there's a reason Benton was picked to hone Sweet Pea and Holyfield (most notably) Man was a defensive genius.
Another great shout in terms of fistic ability/level of competition and legends trained. I might be wrong but didn't Holman Williams teach Louis a bit? Another great non-champion who helped teach a great then
Rewatching Taylor-Chavez I recently I was kidna dissapointed to see that Duva AND Georgie were both telling Meldrick he needed the last round. This what it is.
Even talented amateurs have to be developed in the pros. Roger has done a great job. He was also assistant trainer to head trainer Diaz for the tragic Kid Akeem Anifowoshe.
