I would have to say Fitz myself. One name who probably should be in the poll based on historical impact is Jem Mace.
If we're counting him as English, Fitzsimmons. Very closely followed by either Driscoll or Wilde, my personal choice being Driscoll based on the superior opposition he faced and defeated. Kid's Lewis and Berg are a little bit overrated in some circles IMO. Post WWII would be between Buchanan and Lewis.
I agree about Ted Lewis but to be honest I think Berg is underrated, beat two ATG's in Canzoneri and Kid Chocolate, I rate him above Ted Lewis anyway.
They'll knight Hatton before Buchanan, which totally devalues knighting, and this "Sir Paul McCartney and "Sir Elton John" **** dosen't help matters for knighting either.
Hell, you'll have a "Sir Frank Bruno" before Buchanan, the best that ever came from Scotland or Britain, for that matter, ever gets knighted.
I'd agree if it weren't for the fact that knighthoods are pointless, antiquated tinsel that mean jack **** anyway. A bit like the people who bestow them. I'd be prouder to not have one if I was old Kenny boy.
Why isn't Calzaghe listed yet Ken Buchanan is. I'm not saying the answer here is Calzaghe, but it is pretty inconsistant to have someone as unspectacular as Ken Buchanan and not have the rather brilliant Joe Calzaghe there. Legacy and talent wise, Joe is streets ahead.
Owen Moran is somebody who old timers might give a shout out to. Fitz invented the triple crown though. For the post war period, I remain partial to Buchanan.
I was wondering if someone would mention Moran. I wouldn't have him at the top, but he deserves a mention in the top 10.
Calzaghe has better numbers and the better resume, bar one name who Ken lost to anyway. Nobody could imagine Calzaghe losing to that standard of fighter or only edge past against the standard Ken struggled with. There is not one argument for ranking Ken above Joe.
anytime someone responds with a laughing face it means they hate the comment but they have no real way to refute it.....
