I really like the British forum, it's like a much less annoying General. But I get peeved on there as well sometimes, was surprised to see you and Pea on there but not at all surprised to see you both gettin pissed off immediately After saying that Calzaghe could not compete with the likes of Charles and Foster and getting rebuked by a poster with a Calzaghe avatar I got seriously pissed and have decided to come back here
Not asking anyone to pit the two against each other btw.Just some good analysis of strengths, different usage etc.. Been thinking about doing a great jabs list myself recently.
That would be a great read. But wait, do you not feel Buchanan's jab is generally overated? I seem to remember you calling Watt as "finding him out"?
Do it, will be interesting. I think Buchanan had a real good jab myself, 'Jeff Thomas' doesn't rate Buchanan on film, which is odd as Buchanan looks awesome aesthetically (IMO) as for Winstone well the man was a true feather fist from what I can see, but he used his jab well, well considering I've only seen him in against Saldivar (2nd fight I think) he's keeping an offensive buzzsaw off at times so must have used it well. Fair?
Part of the problem seems to be that then as now flyweights generated little interest or media coverage even among boxing fans and the sporting press. There wasn't even arecognised world flyweight title untill 1916. A person who had a comprehensive understanding of the flyweight division would have been akin to a person who had a fascination with a rare type of 18th century chamber pot.
Those people are all drunk. But are there really so fewer glimpses into Wilde's world than MacAullife's? Only one of them has multiple books after all. To me, the reason Wilde's Joe Frazier hasn't emerged is simply that he didn't have one, or anything approaching it.
Well some of 'em need a short, sharp shock to wake 'em up. I gave 'em; Saad, Charles, Foster, Moore, and apparently Calzaghe would hold his own with all of 'em. I gave 'em Yaqui Lopez and still, no stylistic analysis. Just 'it may be a hunch but I know Calzaghe is the best'Painful stuff.
One thing I will say about Wilde is that whilst the footage of him may not be anything approaching his 'prime', he looks woeful.
Wilde's style was seen as odd for his era. His way of boxing was seen as strange. Calzaghe to beat Foster is a beauty.
