    I dont know, maybe some of ye people arn't real...i like a drink, sometimes far too much... but serious top class champions at their peak... very few me thinks?

    The story of his daughter is very tragic, but was Tunney's death really alcohol related/brought on by drinking?

    He did pass away at the fairly advanced age of 81. I am sure that his daughters actions brought on a lot of misery for him, but his son did become a U.S. Senator. Sadly, I guess its easier to focus on the bad things in life.

    It was also Tony Ayala's other big vice besides heroin; he had been doing both since age 12.

    Indeed he did. And Jess Willard quaffed a quart of gin the evening before Dempsey trashed him in Toledo. Of course Armstrong swilled gallons of beer to try gaining weight while in training for Barney Ross

    I understand that the incident happened later in his life as did the resulting alchohol problems.

    Tony Galento pops into mind, drinking was pretty much his training.
