Studies have shown that the Cornish and the Welsh are not at all closely related, the Cornish are not too dissimilar from the English Celtic tribes.

 

Come again? Is this a joke or is there actually a difference?

 

Fitzsimmons was born in Cornwall but his family emigrated to New Zealand when he was ten. That's almost young enough to speak an entirely new language without an accent, and it's definitely young enough that no trace of an accent will remain if you move to a foreign country in which a different dialect of your native language is spoken.
So, Fitzsimmons would have spoken with a New Zealand accent, and would be culturally a New Zealander rather than a Brit.

 

All human beings are basically the same.

Nationality/ethnicity is more about cullture and someone's professed identity. Nothing more.

 

That's why Lewis should be labelled a Canadian.

 

Well, there is certainly a core of "human nature", which is why Tolstoy's characters are far more real than anything on television, but there are definitely nontrivial cultural differences between nineteenth century Czarist Russia and 21st century southern California.

 

Yes, I definitely agree.
I was hinting more against the line that different nationalities/ethicity/cultures stem from some sort of clear cut biological difference, as racialist nationalists would have us all believe.

eg. The Welsh and the English might be found to be genetically indistinguisable but that wouldn't change a thing about the difference between a Welsh and an English identity.

The OP already acknowledged Fitzsimmons was contentious and barred him (which was fair) and I'm not sure Wass and you started arguing about Lennox when the other guys were referencing Lewis (Ted Kid).

I agree with the OP anyway. Ted "Kid" Lewis is number 1.

 

Well LL is top 7 at heavyweight for me. TKL not top 7 at welter. Different weights yes , different quality not really. I think its too close to argue. I'm not arguing about Lennox I'm just asking what is the criteria for dsq ing him? Wass said for him, it's because he referred to football as " soccer". TBH I don't think its a subject worth getting worried about.

 

Fair enough.
I think Lewis was British when it suited him, which was for much of his professional career, so that's good enough for me.
He also belongs to Canada, and Jamaica and Florida if they want him. He's cosmopolitan and good luck to him.
