Castillo-Corrales many announcers/columnists say that was the best fight in boxing since Hagler-Hearns.
Yeah that was a good one. Diaz jumped on JMM in the 1st round and thought that because he was younger and the fresher of the two, that he can outdo him, but in the later rounds, JMM taught the young boy a lesson. That's why in their rematch, Diaz boxed him instead of infighting, to avoid being KO'd again.
Ok.but mayweather-hatton was not a great fight.generally there would have to be a lot of action to make a great fight.ward-kovalev 1 and kiltschko-Joshua were two exceptions in recent years.still I think all the fights on the list are better than mayweather-hatton. I also thought Hatton wasn't as exciting as he claimed to be(urango, malignaggi, maussa, collazo fights).and as a fighter he earned far more money than he was worth.buddy mcgirt said mayweather had a tougher fight with baldomir than the one he had with Hatton.
All the fights listed are great. to be the greatest, I personally consider the skill level of the participants, whether it's a championship fight and the level of intensity and action through out. My choice is: 1. Morales Barrera 1 Incredible back and forth action between two great fighters in their prime. So much pride and bad blood added to the fuel. 2. Vasquez Marquez Highly technical and pure savagery. It could be number one in terms of sustainable action, I just rate MAB and morales better skill wise. 3. Corrales Castillo Great action fight, although I must admit a little too much phone booth action to my liking. Great fight nonetheless with dramatic ending. 4. Gatti Ward 1 The skill levels are not measured up with the 3 above, otherwise it will be higher. Pure guts and blood mainly because Gatti usually choose to block punches with his face. Great round 9 though, how it was not stop by the referee still baffled me, but I'm glad it goes the whole 10.
Great post.they would be my top 4 aswell.not the same order though.fights in this decade aren't getting near as heavily hyped as the great fights last decade.maybe they are just not of the same standard.i could have included maidana-morales instead of khan-maidana maybe.i never rated segura-Calderon 1 as fight of the year.nobody has mentioned it on this thread.
Cotto vs Torres gets overlooked but that was a bloody great fight. Same with Kelly Pavlik vs Jermain Taylor.
Micky Ward vs Emanuel Augustus deserves mention. More enjoyable than Gatti-Ward trilogy for me personally.
MAB-Morales 1. 18 years later it hasn't been topped. Vazquez-Marquez 3 was close. Those two are a level above anything else. Gatti-Ward 1 was a great round with not much more before that than a few moments and exchanges suggesting what would come. There are way better options than Khan-Maidana and Bradley-Provodnikov.
At least couple of them mentioned but that reminds me (Salido mention there), Salido's fight against that Thai (dont remember the name right now) was absolutely crazy war, few years back I think
I voted Khan-Maidana but I'd like to change my vote to Patel-Sarkozi or Raymi-Maz IV. Please edit the OP or I'm going to freak out
