Incorrect Bob Fitzsimmons is a New Zealander. Spent his youth there learning his trade and his early pro career before he had to travel to get bigger fights. He's in NZs sporting hall of fame.

Thought the classics nsab obviously not

According to the same boxrec, he moved to New Zealand at 9 years old, stayed there for 10 years then moved to Australia. 11 years later he became a US citizen where he fought most of his career and died. If the Kiwis want to claim him as one of theirs, fair play to them.

Gotta agree with TURNER there mate, Battling Nelson could be argued as an American citizen though but if he should be a Dane then he surely ranks a lot higher than Kessler, cannot even compare Anthony Mundine to the likes of Gans and Wolgast and all those lightweight terrors he fought. Yes Kessler fought better fighters than Mundine but lost to all of them and I think Nelson can be forgiven for that loss to Wolgast.

He was hardly a fighter when he left New Zealand, it wasn't until he met Larry Foley before he became a fighter and also Bob never once objected to being called an Australian in his own book. New Zealand need him for their Hall of Fame because they only have a few sport legends if you exclude Rugby Union cos you should, it's a rubbish game and not even the best of the two Rugby codes lol. Them Kiwis are rather desperate lol.

Well, I can't name one excellent on from Vietnam. Going solely on one film, Long Duck Dong took one heck of a punch from Irish Jake Ryan.

But was the fight on the level?

Everyone knows Dong spent the night grossly intoxicated and partying with his girlfriend prior to the confrontation. Ryan said Dong fouled and went low but it was never really proven.

I just look at the his fight stats with 19 losses and 20 draws. And just like in football, it's hard to compare boxers between generations. We're talking 100 years - but for sure. If we're focusing on the nostalgia, then Nelson is the best boxer, but i think people are overrating the fighters from back then due to the nostalgia.

In 15-20 years i think boxers like GGG, Kovalev, Pacquiao and Mayweather will be highly appreciated as some of the greatest.

I've actually looked into the shallow history of Australian boxing and compiled a top 5:

    Jeff Fenech
    Daniel Geale
    Danny Green
    Anthony Mundane
    Sebastian Sylvester

Yes but Fitz himself seems to prefer being called an Australian, I have a thread here where I post up chapters from his great book, I should add a couple more chapters, I am sure you will love reading it all.
