by throw it all away do you actually mean fight like a dirty piece of **** and get knocked the **** out?
What does "throw it all away" mean? Didn't Gollata **** himself in his two biggest fights? That kind of lends itself to the theory that he's mentally impaired as far as top end boxing goes, no? Kind of a barrier to greatness in and off itself...
I say Teofilo Stevenson and Felix Savon. They could have instantly became HW champion had they went to professional boxing. Maybe a lot more unkown Cuban boxers who gave their country a lot of gold medals in boxing but never went professional.
spot on. having a good temperament is a crucial ingredient to becoming a top class sportsman. the fact that golota lacked the temperament to match his physical/technical skills simply means he was not a good enough fighter in the first place to achieve what some seem to think he could have.
I would have said that that was pretty obvious. Saying stuff like "Golata was good enough to beat Lewis" seems really odd to me at the back of a one round KO. No cure for what it is I suppose.
Title of this thread: "Greatest fighter to never win a championship" If a guy never won a championship & is considered very good, bordering on great, there must be a reason that kept him from achieving the top. In Golota's case, it was the weak mental aspect of his game. We all know that it was his downfall.
Herol Graham Kirkland Laing Yaqui Lopez Michael Watson Charley Burley Sam Langford Micky Ward Jerry Quarry Lazslo Papp Ken Norton Carl Williams Ike Ibeabuchi Tyrell Biggs Gerry Cooney Could go on forever really. Charley Burley, if I had to pinpoint
Herol Graham was a great fighter. Andrew Golota to a degree. Always found a way to lose, but very talented and an excellent fighter in his day.
Tyrone Everett. Got robbed BADLY in his one title try then was shot to death shortly thereafter. This was back in the 70s.
