    Nice list Jbels.

But Greb never fought at Lightweight. He was a middleweight who campaigned as high as Heavy tho :good

Shiiiiiit. I mean I do have a very vague understanding of the records of the old guys and an appreciation (perhaps even reverence) of the knowledge shown by our more studied posters, but having said that I'd feel I'd be doing a major disservice to them and myself if I made a list identical to there's on what little I've studied in comparison. If you see where I'm coming from?

I'll report back later with my own list.

Totally understandable mate. Have a think a post a list. No-one is wrong as its all opinion based.

I have a strategy for ranking fighters. 1) Resume, 2) Prime Losses 3) Overall dominance and finally 4) Head to Head ability.

But others have their own system eg number of ATGs beaten, Skill Factor, KO wins etc

Yeah I should've caught that with Greb, I meant Joe Gans to be where Greb was, I'd rank a lot of the old-timers higher if there was more fight footage of them. We're going by first hand accounts which can be unreliable. But from the training videos I've seen of Greb, the man had some of the fastest hands in history.

Mine is very similar, with me perhaps favouring the effects of overall dominance slightly more than prime losses.

    Flyweight: Miguel Canto
HM: Hiroyuki Ebihara, Benny Lynch, Yuri Arbachakov.

    Bantamweight: Eder Jofre
HM: Fighting Harada, Carlos Zarate, Ruben Olivares.

    Lightweight: Roberto Duran.
HM: Pernell Whitaker, Julio Cesar Chavez, Shane Mosley.

    Welterweight: Sugar Ray Robinson.
HM: Sugar Ray Leonard, Jose Napoles, Luis Rodriguez.

    Middleweight: Carlos Monzon.
HM: Sugar Ray Robinson, Marvin Hagler, Bernard Hopkins.

    Light-Heavyweight: Ezzard Charles.
HM: Archie Moore, Michael Spinks, Harold Johnson.

    Heavyweight: Muhammed Ali.
HM: Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano, George Foreman.

Some of those will stick out like a sore-thumb to some guys who know the sport more or less back to front like Mosley, Rodriguez, Hopkins or Johnson. That being said I'd have been blagging it had I put in Gans, Walcott, Conn, Langford etc as I haven't studied their careers enough or the careers of their best victories. Example, I'm having quite an indepth look at Emile Griffith's career yet I don't think I know quite enough about it to include him at welterweight or middleweight.

How could you have Pep, as an all time feather, but not even have the guy who beat him three times as an honorable mention in Saddler? What about Hammering Hank, he fought at featherweight as well.

Holyfield isn't an honorable mention at heavyweight to me. His best wins are all asterisked. He didn't beat the best version of Tyson. He didn't beat the best version of Bowe, Moorer, or Douglas (they were all fat asses when Holyfield beat them). Furthermore, when Bowe and Moorer weren't fat asses, they beat Holyfield.
