Juan Martin Coggi- Not that he was all that great but he was durable.

Agree about Ross - what a fighter. If there was an all-time tough guy top 10, he'd be in contention for the no. 1 spot.

Because of this thread, I actually started putting together a list of fighters with one TKO loss only and noticed that a lot of the names (that you already mentioned) were only stopped in either their last fight or very early on in their careers.

Bit of a surprising one - Hector Camacho. Obviously debatable on the great fighter front but interesting nonetheless.

Wondering if Gavilán is the fighter with the most losses without being stopped?

Lots of boxers lost more fights than Gavilan (30), without ever being stopped, such as:

    Harry Stone (69)
    Eddie Wimler (66)
    Bert Keyes (55)

… just to name a few. Gavilan probably doesn't even make the Top-20.

So many of the blemishes have an asterisk (or other mitigating factors) alongside them.

    Robinson - heat exhaustion
Ali - corner stoppage when already suffering from Parkinsons
Whitaker - shoulder injury in last fight after lengthy layoff
Hopkins - final fight at age 51
Leonard - final fight after six year layoff
    Saddler - 2nd pro fight
Greb - first six months of career to much larger opponent, and injury
Dempsey - 1 round loss in fight rumoured to be fixed
    Canzoneri - final fight
    Tommy Gibbons - final fight
    Britton - 3rd pro fight
    Ortiz - final fight
    Driscoll - final fight
    Locche - stoppage on cut

Coggi had a crooked referee, time-keeper, commissioner and WBA rep to thank in his first fight with Eder Gonzalez for never being stopped.

So maybe just the most losses of any great fighter without being stopped?

Yes, that sounds about right! At least I can't think of anyone with more than 30 losses (and never stopped), that I would consider "greater" than Gavilan.

Aaron Pryor came out of retirement and was stopped...then retired and came back AGAIN
and TKO'd three more guys before finally retiring.

    It's a technical decision.
