Vargas was an above average fighter i'd say but nothing special...had a lot of balls and tenacity. Physically not very talented IMO, especially not in the chin department.

it takes a special fighter to comeback from 3 KD'd against a prime trinadad and last 11 rounds having him in trouble in a competitive matchup me thinks

    i agree with that.

both tito and oscar were in their stride at that time and both at the height of their powers.

considering the clout that tito and oscar had at that weight (which was formidable) and the relative inexperience of vargas, i think vargas deserves a top shelf mention in this thread.

No,it takes a GOOD fighter to do that.
It took a 'special' fighter to not be floored at all and actually beat a prime Tito.

Do you know what "natural talent" means?

in terms of fighters who lack natural talent vargas was special for doing what he did.

Chin i can give you. His longevity? Come on, that's his lifestyle that he lived. He was incredibly disciplined and dedicated and kept his body in great shape.

What "natural talent", outside of his chin, stood out for Hopkins? Perhaps quickness with his feints? :nut

your last post was a question you never answered also.

i want to hear you actually put an opinion forward for once instead of put your hand up and then fade off into the shadows again.

i'm daring you to do it because i could never do what you've done all this thread.

I'm answering the question at hand from the thread starter. "Greatest fighters with the least natural talent." I think Hopkins qualifies because nothing about his natural talent sticks out outside of his great chin, which can't be taught. But what other natural talents did he have that stood out?

    thats better!

dont be afraid to put yourself on the line.

hopkins was one of the most natural fighters i've ever seen in the ring.

it's very rare - very - to watch a fighter who never gets flustered and can keep a clear head throughout a fight. if you've ever fought you'll know what i mean if you watch hopkins fight.

    that's a big, big thing.

the guy might not be word smart but dictates things beautifully when he's fighting.

i really can't understand how someone who loves boxing can't appreciate bernard hopkins - unless they've neveer fought themselves.

he's one of the last fighters in the last 30 years i would ever want to face in their prime. so frustrating.
