But Hatton was a great schoolboy boxer, a great amateur and a great pro.

So he must have had some natural talent, because he's been better than his peers for about 20 years.

They don't really fight much alike.

Mayorga is a wild, fast guy with little regard for technique, with lousy defense. He had power though.

LaMotta was known to use his shoulders and upper body well to avoid blows, and rolled with them well. Although a big, strong middleweight, he wasn't too much of a puncher.

The problem with the whole "natural talent" thing is, it's tough to gauge what exactly someone is "born with" or practices to perfection.

What if someone isn't born with great speed, but just has a knack for picking up things quicker than others? Marvin Hagler wasn't the most physically gifted guy, but Petronelli commented on how quickly Hagler was able to learn things about boxing.

There's other guys who are born fast and very coordinated, but just don't pick up on boxing things that well. Jermaine Taylor was a track star in high school I think, he has some speed and athleticism, but doesn't improve his boxing skills as well as others. A guy like Carlos Monzon trained on cigarettes, booze, and women, and wasn't the quickest guy in there....but obviously knew how to fight in the ring. Is that something he learned, or is he just born with some natural ability to fight?

i agree when it comes to monzon. alexis arguello, on the other hand, can crack so i could say he has natural talent.
