I'm curious to see how the results of this poll in the Classic section compare with those of the poll with the same topic that was recently on the front page of the General forum.
Larry Holmes. Beat great fighters and prime heavyweights, fought the best, had all the skill, heart, talent ect. Just all of the quality of a true legend. He also has the best resume on the list and one of the best resume's of all time. Its a no brainer.
Lennox Lewis. However, how does this work? Do you count Holmes as a fighter because he was active 25 years ago or what he achieved 25 years ago? I assume the former, otherwise his resume doesn't quite stack up with the rest.
Yeah i was thinking about that myself. If its Larry Holmes only in the last 25 years, then the answer is obviosly Lennox Lewis. However if you mean Larry Holmes in general, then of course its Holmes.
George Foreman is the finest Heavyweight to have fought in the last 25 years (followed by the Black Cloud); Holyfield is the finest Heavyweight of the period.
Do you mean the Holmes of 1983 on or him in general? If you mean the Holmes of 1983 on, then Lennox Lewis, if you mean in general, Holmes.
Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Bowe, in that order. They were all considered the best heavyweight fighters of the past 25 years, but I'd pick Tyson #1 overall. Holmes is arguably the best if included with the above mentioned, but I consider starting the comparison after Holmes' prime years.
You know, that is a good question, those of you talking about what part of Holmes' career to consider. I would interpret it as meaning the best heavyweight who was at or near his peak at some time during the last 25 years, with the given fighter's entire career counting.
My answer is the same. Past 25 years, it's gotta be Lewis, as it excludes a good portion of Holmes's championship reign. Past 30 years would be Larry.
