Id like to see people lists of greatest heavyweights reigns. To me there is no dispute as who has the greatest heavyweight reign, he is also my GOAT heavyweight ahead of Ali, Joe Louis. I dont think this is even a debate on number one.

Louis's championship reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 27 championship fights, including 25 successful title defenses – all records for the heavyweight division. In 2005, Louis was named the greatest heavyweight of all time by the International Boxing Research Organization,[3] and was ranked number one on [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_Magazine"]Ring Magazine[/ame]'s list of 100 Greatest Punchers of All Time.

But, who else can be mentioned in the top 10 HW reigns?

Guys off the top of my head I know we can list are Holmes who is likely number 2. Ali's reign was broken up but worth mention. Dempsey? Lewis? Wlad? like to see someone with more knowledge on this than me

Ali's reign was much better IMO when you take into consideration the quality of oppenents. Afterall, the best guy Louis defended his title against was probably Billy Conn, who was small even by LHW standards, I think Conn weight 169lbs for that fight.

It´s about reign not career. For example Ali´s loss to Spinks is there, his win over Foreman is not. Ali´s reign was not that good. Careerwise he is up there with Louis. Reign-wise he isn´t.
Louis best win in his reing was certainly not Conn but Schmeling.

Others to be considered are Rocky Marciano who is 7-0 (6KOs) in his reign including 4 wins over HoFers and James J. Jeffries who was also unbeaten during his reign and 3-0 against HoFers.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl

God, Lewis is overrated on this forum. Borderline top ten, AT BEST.:yep

Lewis isn't even the best HW of the last 20 years, let alone top four all time.

    Here's my ranking

    1. Ali
    2. Louis
    3. Dempsey
    4. Foreman
    5. Holmes
    6. Marciano
    7. Holyfield
    8. Johnson
    9. Liston
    10. Frazier

Where is Tyson? His reign in the 80s was great, he won 10 consecutive title fights while cleaning out the division, maybe not top 5 BUT definitely top 10.

Good point. Under these criteria, Tyson should probably be in there, on dominance alone.

When we talk about reign we need to consider not only the opponents they faced but also length of the reign and number of title defenses.
