If you inclide both Eire and Northern Ireland ,how about Jimmy Mclarnin? Or the original NonPareil Jack Dempsey,or Mike Mctigue?
We will include both Eire and Northern Ireland. Jack Dempsey and Jimmy McClarrin are good picks. Jack McAuliffe should also be mentioned.
McLarnin and Dempsey stand out for me, good picks guys! Dempsey may be the greater, but hard to top McLarnin actually, had a great rivalry with Ross, an ATG at 147, and fought at different weights in a great time for boxing beating most. I'll pick McLarnin!
So far we have five good names. Dempsey, McAuliffe, McLarrin, McTigure. Could we perhaps stretch this to a top 5 or even top 10 list?
I dont know too much about the origins of the fighters, but if it was being stretched to a top 10, could we accomodate Steve Collins somewhere??
Well you have McGuigan and Mculloch,I will go for the "Baby Faced Assasin ",Jimmy Mclarnin.Born in Belfast ,grew up in Canada and boxed in the USA.
Oh yeah, Mculloch defo gets in for me, one of the country's best, and McGuigan would be somewhere behind him imo
If going for a top ten, fighters like Tom Sharkey, George Gardiner, and Rinty Monaghan deserve consideration, and maybe Johnny Caldwell, as well.
top 10 in no particular order; Mc larnin, mc guigan, maher, sharkey, gardiner, dempsey, mc auliffe, collins, mc cullough, mc tigue, rinty monaghan...oh thats 11 and near misses Coffey. caldwell, gardiner(jimmy)tom mccormick, gilroy and I'm sure i've forgotten a few.
Peter Maher Tom Sharkey Mike McTigue Steve Collins George Gardiner Barry McGuigan Jimmy McLarnin Wayne McCulllough Jack McAuliffe Jack Dempsey Rinty Monaghan All deserve mentions, most already have been in this thread though. My knowledge of Irish fighters is a bit slim though.
