Seen as it's St Patrick's day today let's talk Irish fighters.. who would you say are the greatest Irish fighter's of all time? There have men been many but for me one man stands head and shoulders.. Jimmy McLarnin: 2x undisputed WW champion. Has wins over fellow HOF'ers: Fidel LaBarba Pancho Villa Bud Taylor Louis 'Kid' Kaplan Sammy Mandell Billy Petrolle Benny Leonard Young Corbett III Barney Ross Tony Canzoneri Lou Ambers Incredibly he beat Taylor, LaBarba and Pancho Villa before he was even eighteen years old.. he also has arguably the greatest first round KO in boxing history .. over young Corbett III.. Corbett was WW champion & would go on to beat MW great Mickey Walker, Gus lesnevich a future LHW champion, LHW great Billy Conn & the #1 rated MW Fred Apostoli. Corbett in his own right is an ATG. Check our his career.. McLarnin has one of the greatest resumes of all time.
No chance. McLarnin if I'm not mistaken met 14 HOFers - more than almost any other boxer! He defeated 13 of them .. he's right up there with Greb! I think Greb fought 16.. anyone clarify this? That would be an interesting thread in itself.. who fought the most Hall of Fame fighters..
Hard to know. Frampton was a multi weight world champion. Collins obviously. McGuigan is worth a mention. For sheer toughness, you have to mention McCullough. For my own hometown, Ill put Andy Lees name in there Some people might scoff, but based on acheivements in their field Katie Taylor has done a lot.
