    No, that's an excellent answer. Heavyweight title fights had rarely produced this type of chess match before, and aside from Tunney-Gibbons, there were few heavyweight bouts of any prominence prior to Louis-Farr where both participants were known for the level of skill they possessed.

    Cheers Duodenum, it's funny what you said in your post - but the other fight that sprung to mind for me along with the Louis-Farr match was non other than Tunney-Gibbons - 2 of the most cultured boxers for their weights ever.

    Recently, I'd say Toney - Jirov was a brawl fought with extreme class on both sides.

    Earlier in the thread there's a complaint earlier in there aren't enough in-fighting mentions. Here's a beautiful example of skillful in-fighitng:

    Note the way Carter keeps the pressure on but also looks to protect himself with distance and positioning up close. The rest of the fight is also on YouTube.
