I was talking Moorer. Him at 175 vs prime Joe would have been action packed. Joe would have got him by UD I think but would’ve maybe had to get up off the canvas a couple times.
Don't know why but after seeing Murata's latest victory and also being added to the list of MW champions I think the division is becoming interesting. GGG now has more credible opponents to deal with. He's already gotten by Lemieux, Jacobs and Canelo, would really like to see him in the mix with Charlo and Murata soon.
Looks like MW division is becoming more stacked. With GGG somewhat past it now with new credible MW it should be best for him to face them before calling it quits.
I think people have a very hard time disconnecting what a fighter has done in their entire career and what they have done at the point in time to which comparisons are being made. Im seeing too many people point out Hopkins as an elite early 90s name but what has he done at that point to put him ahead of Jacobs? Neither had a great win and both lost to what looked to be great talent. Rjjrs resume also also very slim at the time. Most of those guys never even fought each other. Im not seeing a big difference between then and now.
Good points, but you can see the talent they had. Bernard's resume wasn't great, but you can see how good he was against Roy in 1993. You can watch the fight. He'd be considered a top 2 MW today along with GG. Yes, Roy's resume at MW is thin, but he beat better fighters at higher weights than most of today's top 10 MW's. Yes, it's a travesty that most of those early MW's didn't all fight each other. But as a whole, they were a stronger group than today's guys. Just list them and see for yourself.
What Im saying is that despite how good Hopkins looked he wouldn't get very much credit for almost an entire decade later. The same could easily be said about today. Guys like BJS, Charlos, Hurd, Jacobs, etc show great talent or outstanding physical attributes that a lot of people don't want to admit are there. Do we have to wait til these guys have played through their entire career before people admit that todays division isn't weak? Or perhaps these guys who tell us to just look at the footage to see the talent are simply hypocrites who can't make a proper judgement on a fighter and thus rely only on hyping fighters who have already made their mark.
The Basilio/SRR/Fullmer/Griffith era Otherwise you've got the 70s with Benvenuti/Monzon/Griffith/Briscoe era
Late 80s-Mid 90s for sure.... Really competitive, there's a only ****s hair between most of these guys..... Collins deserves a mention! Managed to go 2-2(4-2) h2h here and performed with credit even in defeat against McCallum and Kalambay.
I like Golovkin, I knew that El Pollo would refuse to fight him, esp. without his tainted meat. El Pollo will cancel rather than take the drug tests!
I don't think today's MW division is particularly weak, it's just not as strong as it was in previous eras. The guys you've mentioned are all very good fighters, and it'll be interesting to see how their careers unfold. I take on board what you've said regarding the likes of Bernard, and we now have the benefit of looking back with hindsight.
