I was thinking that the first Chiquita v Carbajal fight had a similar name but apparently it was labeled ‘La Explosion’. At least both those fights lived up to their billing. Unlike Spinks-Qawi, which was anything but a brawl.
I re-watched Spinks-Qawi a few years ago, in preparing my article about Larry Hazzard for Wikipedia. It was a good fight but nothing special. The problem with expecting a war is that sometimes we are let down. I didnt expect Mayweather-Pacquiao to be the war everyone else thought t'd be and I was pleased with the fight. Not that I'd watch it too many times, but.... Witherspoon-Page I was the other way around, I was 11 and expected it to be, literally, the Heavyweight version of Leonard-Duran I. It was not, and I was disappointed, For some reason, I re-watched it a few years ago and found it WAS a war. I was just disappointed as a kid that it did not compare to one of the greatest classics in history which I thought it would lol.
Incredible that the Fight of the Century (Frazier-Ali 1 rather than Johnson-Jeffries) lived up to its billing. De La Hoya-Trinidad’s Fight of the Millennium was exactly what it sounded like - absurd hyperbole. It wasn’t even Fight of the Year.
