I'm writing a series of articles on British and Irish boxing's greatest nights from 2001-2011 (up to and including Oct 15.) I'm avoiding the 90s just now because Eubank, Benn, Watson has been done to death. My plan from all these votes is to write a book on the top twenty selections complete with interviews with fighters, referees, pundits, fans, promoters etc etc

The editor of Boxing Monthly has kindly agreed to write the foreword for the book as well.

Anyway, I would sincerely appreciate it if you could pick your top ten fights to have taken place on British and Irish soil from 2001 to 2011. I'm going to be contacting a host of boxing writers to get them to vote as well.

If it takes off I'll look at doing other eras as well and an American version too.

I'll keep the thread alive until Oct 31 and let you know the results.

So if you could take the time to cast your top ten, as I said, I'd sincerely appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Shaun Brown

I would say the night Ricky Hatton upset Kostya Tszyu. Calzaghe deserves a mention for cumulative works, rather than one single fight of brilliance in the time period.

    1: Hatton/Tsyzu
    2: Calzaghe/Lacy
    3: Calzaghe/Kessler
    4: Froch/Pascal
    5: Woods/JohnsonII
    6: Witter/Corley
    6: Woods/Hoye
    7: Harrison/McCullough
    8: Khan/Barrera
    9: Thompson/Haye
    10: Haye/Maccarinelli

Good idea for some articles Shaun!

Off the top of my head, Calazghe beating Hopkins, Hatton beating Zoo and Lewis KOing Tyson - these are the obvious ones. I'll re post some more tomorrow.

Who are you writing for now btw?

good shout actually there, i feel that one may slip under the radar, but i didnt know much of burns before that fight, but he pulled off the big upset in a great fight so imo this deserves to make top ten
