Look at the thread title. It doesn't ask what fighter failed to meet your personal expectations, it asks who is the best fighter who never amounted to anything. To answer that with names like Tszyu and Mayweather is just plain stupid and makes next to no sense. Mayweather is undefeated, has won 6 titles in 5 divisions, has been a champ for over a decade, has been considered one of the top fighters in the game for a decade, has beaten multiple HOFers, is considered by many reputable writers and boxing publications to be one of the top 50 fighters of all time, and he's still only 32. His career is not over.

In what bizzare world does that qualify for not amounting to anything? You can't put ridiculously high standards on a fighter and then say he hasn't amounted to anything because he hasn't met them...yet, even though they've still accomplished more than 95% of the people who have ever stepped into that ring. You may call this hugging, I call it basic common sense.

Yea, I agree. It's pure ridcioulousness to suggest Floyd Mayweather Jr. never amounted to anything.

 

Our interpretation of the thread title differs. Since when did you have to give examples 'by the book' in ESB? I would bet that you also bent the rules of a thread in some of your 13k posts.

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that FMJ and KT never amounted to anything. I'm just pointing out that Kostya Tszyu would have been recognized (outside of boxing nuts like us) a lot more if he had fought bigger names (preferably US-based), win or lose.--And I'm stating the fact that Floyd has not took any big risks lately. If he did, and was successful (which is what likely is to happen), he would be placed far higher in the ATG list compared to where he is right now.

Kirkland Laing.

He didn't amount to nothing, its very hard to think of an accomplished fighter that did. After all he beat Duran. But outside that, his career is full of disapointment. Watch him on film and it is fairly evident he should have done way more, but he lacked dedication.
