Yeah that's always a good case to be made.

I don't mean you Addie, but i'm starting to think that sometimes people use the 'Jones getting inevitably ko'd' conclusion as a bit of a kop out (sorry to steal your terminology from the other thread!) when talking about him fighting a puncher at 175. People just say it now without considering what Jones might do or how he might implement a potential strategy well.

Like Jones-Foster, of course Foster might just bang him out, and this has GOT to be considered. But Jones, had great reflexes, mobility and threw blistering powershots. I know he hasn't beaten that caliber at the weight and there are many other factors that you could use against him there, but like i said, sometimes people seem over eager to write him off as ko'd imo.

Like i said, not you though.

Truth be told, I can envision Jones boxing rings around Foster. Foster was one of the hardest hitters ever, P4P, but he would often rely on it and just plod forward, throw a jab and then the huge right hand. Wouldn't get the job done against Jones, Spinks has a far greater chance because he threw in combination, and his combination's were so varied..you just didn't know where the hell they are coming from. I think that's why he scored a lot of knockouts, because the opponents just didn't see it coming.

Well your right because some of those people who use that cop out deep down know that no fighter can outpoint Roy, so they have to say he gets kayoed, even though Roy was damn near un-hittable in his prime.

Yeah like i said, for the same reasons, i'd be picking Spinks. And again, like i said, you're not one of them posters i meant, as you just have shown.

Just look at those shots. Every angle, I don't care how quick you are, some of those are going to land.

How does Hagler vs Jones go down at 160lbs in your view, Pea?

Over 15 I'd favor Hagler down the stretch. At his best I think he had the resolve and willpower to trudge through Jones's counter attacks and break him down late.

    I agree.

How about Spinks vs Jones at 175lbs?

I think Spinks had the timing, accuracy, and punching style to land on Jones big at some point, in which case I can't see any event unfolding but a Spinks KO. Probably sometime in the mid to late rounds.

It must have been a nightmare for his opponents, trying to defend his combination's. He'd cleverly throw his hooks and then come up through the middle with his uppercuts. Cooney had no clue what to do, and was inevitably stopped as a result. Jones never contended with a guy as big, skilled, and unorthodox as Spinks before, and I can't see anything but a knockout either.

Does Foster get the same result, or would his predictable single shot offense be his undoing?

Michael Spinks sparked out Johnson, a remarkably tough guy who went life and death with Saad on two separate occasions. But he practically hurt everybody he fought at 175, Qawi was buzzed by a right hand early on, Eddie was knocked down by a beautiful overhand right, and Yaqui Lopez and Wassaja were bombed out of there inside 8 rounds. Let's not forget, it was a very tough and competitive 175lbs division at the time. Nobody knocks out Qawi or Eddie at 175. Even so, Michael would move up to Heavy and knock guys out up there, Cooney was a respectable contender at the time and looked like Goliath in there. Spinks had one punch knockout power, no doubt.

Not that he'd really need it, because I see him landing combination's on Jones with his awkward style. Jones relies on timing and reflexes, but Spinks' shots come from everywhere, in 6s and 7s sometimes, Jones is no doubt going to get hit, and he didn't really pass the test against Tarver, and never gave us reason to believe he could take flush shots from a puncher like Spinks. It's important to note, Spinks is 10x better than any LHW Jones ever got in the ring with, and I think sometimes people are forgetting this.

If Jones stays in there long enough to throw 6 left hooks, he's going to get hit back and he won't like it. Trust me.

Jones hitting harder than Spinks? :verysad There were a lot of bums that Jones could not get out of there.

Hill was a far superios lhw to Tarver. But he lost his belts the fight before to DM who was the real champ and ducked by Jones.
