Is beating Calzaghe, Toney and Hopkins a greater feat than defeating Hearns , Benitez, Duran, and Hagler? Or greater than beating Foreman, Frazier and Liston? Or Lamotta, Gavilan, and Armstrong? Hell no!
RJJ certainly would be the greatest of all time. No doubt in my mind. At the moment I have Enzo Mac as p4p the GOAT but if RJJ can pull off a victory over Calzaghe Roy will be considered by everyone in boxing as the greatest ever
I agree...Ray Robinson is the GREATEST P4P.... do you think Ray Robinson in his prime could beat RJJ in his prime?
I don't know. Robinson was best at welterweight and jones was best, imo, at 168. They'd have to meet at middlweight where Jones in his prime was probably better.
Ray Robinson was Prime at welterweight, different weights. At Super middle no one touches Roy in my opinion.
Im going to put him behind Robinson if he were to beat Joe in convincing fashion . Ali spent his whoe career or the better part ofIT at heavy weight .Last I checked heavy weights don't rate all that high on a p4p list . For Jones to go from 160 to 200 capture titles in all those weight classes then to come back down from heavy suffer 3 losses than win another lt heavy wEight title ? How can you not rank him behind Ray Robinson p4p wise ? What other fighter could even come close to doing that ? And people need to stop using resume as the sole criteria for p4p !!
If he beats Calzaghe, rematches and beats Johnson.....and then beats Dawson. Then lets have this conversation.
DUDE :scaredas: :-( that can't be a serious question...HE FOUGHT OVER 200 TIMES! and has nearly triple if not more the amount of victories compared to roy... He has TRULY dominated his division and beat everyone there is to beat and most of his losses coming from his well-passed-prime period of his career... to question his greatness is...atsch ...just stupid :bart His place of GOAT can be debated but has always been within the top 3
You hold a serious argument and I see your point...but you must realize that although RJJ is the only human being to have went from 160 to 200 capturing all titles across the board, his journey there was a calculated one...while he journeyed his way to the top, he fought fighters that looked good on paper, but weren't a serious threat making his trip to the top a much faster one...if you want to retain titles from that kind of span you have to reach the top rather quickly so any such fight that might call for a lower weight class requirement wont hurt his chances of making it up to HW without hurting his body physically... His opponents are in serious question as well...He greatest feats besides capturing his belts were James Toney, Ruiz (who was a pathetic champion to say the least) and a not so crafty Hopkins...thats it??!! wow...im not impressed...James Toney was serious opposition...but one guy? as opposed to people like, Julio Caesar Chavez who not only was a true civil rights activist for his people...but a boxer has had defeated everyone there was to beat and fought OVER 100 TIMES! only suffering a handful of defeats during his most shot end of his career...and his opposition during those days were...tough...Macho Camacho, Roger Mayweather (a man who called himself the best :nut ) and a slew of others SRR is obviously greater... ALI also defeated the best, had great boxing ability, charisma, and even innovated certain signature boxing moves himself... these people are far greater boxers and individuals than RJJ...they all have transcended the sport in ways no other boxers have...not only did they show courage, bravery, and wisdom inside the ring...but outside it as well...and thats what makes them GOAT...
:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl seriously man.. forget about this thread (we'll forgive you), go home and read about SRR. Roy Jones is great, but dont you ever, in your life, compare him to the likes of Sugar Ray Robinson. You hear me? NEVER! :rasta :hi:
