Good to see Leto get a mention. Tough welterweight of the 30s, who fought 9 HOFers - beating 6 of them and drawing with 2 others. Largely forgotten today.

I dunno but you’re probably right. It just that I remember someone here posting that Laing didn’t fight again for more than a year or so after beating Duran so I thought maybe it was because he was waiting for the expectant title shot but it never came?

    O. K. I was first considering "Bubi" Scholz, but he did it in Light-Heavyweight agaisnt Tiger Johnson.

Maybe Jake Killrain (as it not official existed), Thomas Damgaart (who avoided Trabant, Rivera three times and Urkal twice) and Mike Gibbons.
Just as Lee Darcy, Rocky Castellani and Henry Hank.

Merciless Ray Mercer won the lightly regarded (at the time) WBO title but never received a shot at the big three (WBC, WBA, IBF).

I thought the fight against Lennox Lewis was for the WBC title vacated by Riddick Bowe?

Les Darcy and Henry Hank are good picks, but Castellani fought Bobo Olson for the title.

No this was an elimination bout; Lewis got the title on the green table and his first world title bout was against Tucker.
