For an island which has a population of just under 4 million, I'm sure you will all agree that Puerto Rico has produced an abundance of outstanding boxers. But who do you lads think is the greatest of them all?

For me personally, I would just give Wilfredo Gomez the edge, a monsterous puncher who posessed very good boxing skills when required.

Benitez was an incredible talent, possibly the greatest defensive fighter there has ever been. It speaks volumes of his talent that even though he won titles at 3 different weights, people still feel that he under-acheived in his career.

He may not have had the talent of Benitez, but his ring record is damn impressive:

    Maurice Blocker KO2
Yory Boy Campas (56-0 at the time) TKO4
Oba Carr (32-0 at the time) TKO8
    Pernell Whitaker UD12
    Oscar De La Hoya MD12
    David Reid UD12
    Mamadou Thiam TKO3
    Fernando Vargas TKO12
    William Joppy TKO5
    Ricardo Mayorga TKO8

I think he's definitely in the mix with Benitez and Gomez.

D-Mac, I agree, but I shockingly ommitted Carlos Ortiz, who is above Benitez and Gomez on my list :good

Yep, Flea. Ortiz just gets the nod for me over Gomez. Benitiez and Trinidad clearly behind them.

    Trinidad can't be far off.

Beat everyone that DLH beat, usually before Oscar did and usually more impressive..... not many people were the same after fighting him either.

After Hopkins he didn't do much, Benitez at least achieved plenty after losing his 0.

But yeah... Gomez and Ortiz probably edge the pair of them out.

Probably Ortiz, with Gomez and Benitez not far behind.

    On ability its Benitez IMO.
