Talent wise I have to go with Benitez. BTW I'm a huge Trinidad fan but there is no way he is the greatest. I have a feeling the majority who voted for Tito never watched the other great fighters on the list.
Trinidad has a wider resume than Benitez. But Benitez had three great wins against Duran,Cervantes and Palomino.
Gomez's win over Carlos Zarate is one of the most impressive for a PR fighter for me. At 122 he was unstoppable. One of the greatest punchers of all time. Though I haven't seen it, I understand he may have been given a gift against Rocky Lockridge when fighting for the IBF 130 lb title. Though he was beaten emphatically against both Salvador Sanchez and Azumah Nelson, they are two ATG's, and there is no shame as they were at a higher weight. For me, my favourite However, as Trinidad and Benitez were ALSO victim to some fantastic opposition, there can only be one man as the greatest; Carlos Ortiz, who, as someone rightfully has said already; was never embarrassed. The beatdown he gave to Elorde in their 2nd fight (I think that is the one I've seen) is frigthening. He knocks him completely out cold. I've always wondered what an Ortiz-Duran fight would look like at LW. I bet a lot of people will say 'Duran was a beast at LW....unstoppable', which may be right. But I say Ortiz runs him the whole way; he was just as rugged as Duran, and a big strong guy too.
:good si. great lil fighter. would of loved to see him vs. Finito Lopez. what a classico that would of been and a trilogia in the making for sure. i'd give a close edge to a prime finito, he was just too great. he matched ivan in every dept, but i don't think ivan would of ever faced anyone with finito's power. i always loved watching el topo gerena as well, just alittle chinny, but very good outside fighter.
Hall-of-famers Joe Brown, Duilio Loi, Kenny Lane, Flash Elorde, Ismael Laguna, and Sugar Ramos point otherwise. Ortiz' resume is clearly superior, and he was a much more complete fighter than Trinidad.
