Greatest Pure Boxer ever?

I got Benny Leonard, Willie Pep as the top 2 with Napoles after them

 

I feel like people define the term "pure boxer" differently. To me I always thought "pure boxers" were the more technical, defense oriented fighters that really use the "hit and not get hit" approach without trying to go for the KO and get into a brawl. Pure boxers are the ones that rely on movement and ring IQ, are more than happy to go the full distance, and will do everything they can to avoid any exchanges.

I never saw Jose Napoles as a "pure boxer" since he usually came forward, threw punches with mean intent, and would be happy to fight. Guys like Ricardo Lopez and Gilberto Roman are different because they punched with power and were wiling to brawl if needed but they mostly took the pure boxer approach first before the KO. Ricardo Lopez and Roman were more of the pure boxer-punchers IMO, if that makes any sense.

I don't understand the Question pal. Do you mean the best pure boxer ever? Or more like the greatest fighter I'd class as a pure boxer?

Benny Leonard, the bloke was ahead of his time. He had some incredible movement and his jab is in the conversation as pfp one of the best. He had brilliant footwork and managed to save energy with it.
I have at 6 pfp so he's my greatest pure boxer. If pressed to make a pick I'd probably put him as my second best pure boxer

Willie Pep, he was so elusive it's a wonder he lost. He schooled some of the greatest fighters of his day and had some unbelievably good footwork. He would twist and spin opponents and even managed to win a round without throwing a punch.
I have at 14 pfp so he's my 3rd greatest pure boxer. If pressed to make a pick I'd probably put him as my best pure boxer

José Napoles, his dissection of Curtis Cokes showed everything you want from a pure boxer (although could be argued as a boxer puncher). He could throw every punch well and blended offense and defense perfectly. He is one of the silkiest fighters of all time.
I have at 46 pfp so he's one of my greatest pure boxers. If pressed to make a pick I'd probably put him as my third best pure boxer of all time.

 

come on as good as Naz was he wasn't Pacquaio. It was an excellent win for Barrera but any of Barrera, Morales, Marquez, Pac would have beaten Naz. And Morales beat Pac convincingly too.
Anyway, Barrera greatest pure boxer ever? You seem to overrate him a lot.
