Junior Jones. It sent an undefeated, 43-0,Barrera's career on a detour. Don't let the DQ fool you, that was a stoppage. For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about: Barrera had been dropped by Jones' right hand, and was in no shape to continue. Barrera's corner entered the ring to stop the fight, resulting in a disqualification under the rules. In a side note; Barrera tried to box Jones in the rematch, and nearly pulled it off. This was the first time I'd seen him fight in that manner. People did not start making a big deal out of his variety of styles until after his first fight with Morales.
vince phillips, he was herky jerky, hot and cold and drained from weight but when he got the right hand home he could get guys out of there. marciano without a doubt (as said) hearns (as said) danny lopez (as said) lennox lewis (as said) sandy sandler was blasting guys out with his right hand. kennedy mckinneys right hand as he said was "no joke" and of course gerald mccellan and john mugabi
I'm surprised no one has mentioned Foster. Probably not as good as Hearns's per se, but still a great punch.
Max Schmeling. Like a ****ing laser guided rocket. In the modern era, Shane Mosley's right hand is a formidable weapon. He landed it often against DLH, Cotto and Vargas.
Wow, talk about a right hand! That right of Lopez is the reason he should be in the HALL of FAME, IMO. Just check out the Juan Malvarez fight on You Tube for an example. I agree with Ted Spoon about Monzon and Valdez as well. Monzon's right vs. Benvenuti was devastating, and Valdez put the indestructable Bennie Briscoe to sleep with his.
The two Max's, Baer and Schmeling were standouts. Baer's for one shot sheer destructive power, and Schmeling's accurate, well placed right hand counter, which was so effective against Louis.
tysons right was great but he preferred to use the left probable because of his height and style. look at the botha KO
For me, the greatest right hands that come to mind are- Schmeling, one of the best counter rights ever, and turned the tide of fights, is always the first one that i think of on the subject. There's plenty of different types of right hands though, Ingemarr Johanssen was another, for uppercuts, Tyson and Joe Louis, for pure technical class mixed with power- Arguello, for pure power- Marciano and Ketchel. For a great right jab, my fave is Whitaker, so crafty. And Archie Moore had a real clever right backhand. Also, Roberto Duran's straight hand from distance was so great, accurate, and always closed the gap on his opponent, rather than him cutting off the ring like other great pressure fighters. Michael Spinks' may have more to it than just power, but it is the power of it which is the main focal point every time i see it, what a shot!
Precisely. Not only is it straight as an arrow, extremely accurate, and well timed, but it knocks guys out. The best right hand of all time in this posters opinion.
