We weren't as SPOILED in this selection as we were in the last two but still some good action: Chuvalo-Patterson was a great fight but more for the whole than any particular stand-out round. This was good but by far the least of the offerings. I wasn't as high on Tiger-Hank or Barrera-McKinney as others; both were good, but the former was one-sided and the latter had an utter gob-shite for a referee. Of the three standouts, Scott-Ortega perhaps lacked the most 'drama' for me, even if it had the most even, back-and-forth action. Chavez-Taylor 1 was the entire dichotomy of the fight; Taylor's speed and pepper-spray shots scoring points, but the heavier, if less frequent, blows of Chavez doing actual damage. It's neck and neck with Scott-Ortega, but both to me get outdone by the sheer movie magic that was Bowe-Holyfield 1. Bowe should have knocked him out. Not only did he not, but Holyfield forced his way back into the fight. Just awe-inspiring stuff. Vote goes to Bowe-Holyfield 1.
I saw that fight the day it happened. I love the Ali-Frazier fights, Holmes-Norton. This might have been my favorite heavy fight ever. Holy and Bowe's hearts were those of lions in this fight. If they weren't considered ATGs before this, they should have been immediately after (even though Bowe is on a far lower rung of the ATG list than Holy....Bowe's best by far was brought out by Evander imo).
And your winner, by the narrowest of margins, for greatest Round 10 of all time: Julio Cesar Chavez-Meldrick Taylor I.
