I just had a ball watching all 7 of these. My top 3 were the Seabrooks v Jacob fight and the Saad v Yaqui double-header. And Saad - Yaqui II took my vote. Just a see-sawing round where these two just pounded each other. It should be noted that when Saad passed away, Yaqui flew out to Philly to attend his funeral. Respect and friendship born in battle. And that 8th round left a share of them in that ring.
Let's be honest: this was a race for who gets second place and Muhammad-Lopez may have gotten that, too. Seabrooks-Jacob and Duran-Barkley give the first go-round a run for its money, however; the first with its non-stop action, the second with Duran's brilliant in-fighting helping him come back and maybe even steal a round Barkley hurt him in. But yeah c'mon now. It's Muhammad-Lopez II.
Nah, not in my view. Good round but not a patch on the top 3 here and not definitely better than some of the others even.
Round 8 7. Giardello-Turner Some nice action but as has been said already, too much holding. 6. Marquez-Diaz 1 Not the best round of that fight but a very decent one nonetheless. Just not on the level of the ones above it. 5. Duran-Barkley Another corking round from the Round 7 winner. Great stuff as Barkley staggers Duran and has him in some early trouble before Roberto comes back at the end - that fight in microcosm. 4. Gonzalez-Kelley I nominated this one and it is terrific from the start. The all-out assault from Gonzalez and then the quick turnaround from Kelley to drop Gonzalez is marvellous. This is only fourth on the list but it's a tremendous round in its own right. And from an excellent fight too. 3. Saad-Lopez 1 A prelude to what would happen in the rematch, Lopez battering Saad before he comes back and then Lopez does and then Saad does again. Great stuff. 2. Seabrooks-Jacob Crazy, wild round! This missed out on the top spot because the action wasn't as clean but it's hard to imagine a more action-packed round (aside from the round that's above it, I mean). Just bonkers. 1. Saad-Lopez 2 It had to be. A whole fight within a fight, this is a legit contender for the single greatest round of all time. More changes of momentum in 3 minutes than most fights have in their entirety and a comeback within a comeback from Saad. It still amazes me every time I watch it.
Disagree. A great example of body punching bringing someone down. One of my fav Heavyweight Champion fights and 8 was great. Slovenly yes but exciting to me.
Wow this was tough by my ratings are 7Duran v Barclay-6 Gonzales v Kelly-5 Giardello v Turner-4 Marquez v Diaz-3 Franklin v Lopez first fight-2Franklin v Lopez 2nd fight 1Seabrooks v Jacobs
Ok lads, I’ve scrutinized the selections and cast my vote for Saad Muhammad-Lopez ... the first fight. I like it just slightly more than the second one — the shifts in fortune were a bit wider with both more clearly buckled over the course of the round, and the action was just as intense. As noted on the nomination master thread, these rounds are nearly identical. I think if we’d have had Clancy and Ryan calling this one more people might like it just a bit better like I did, but you can’t go wrong watching either one (or any of these, really, especially Jacob-Seabrooks ... that one and the two Saad-Lopez rounds stand out as the top tier to me in this round, and comments by many of you agree. Damn, what action.
Hi mate, its pretty amazing how Saad and Yaqui had TWO round 8's like that. My pick is their rematch round eight but my other fave round eight has to be Ali vs Foreman in Zaire. Cheers.
