McCall. Very rare to nmever be even down at HW.
And with such a long career.
And sparring Tyson for over 300 rounds.
    And as an amateur.
    And fighting into his dotage.
And fighting against modern sized HWs.
And *without* a style that is very defensively based or spoiling &/or tying guys up. "The Atomic Bull".

Chuvalo has a case since he fought even more bouts against many hard hitters & just should have had the Patterson "slip" ruled a kd.
But he was taken out of the fights b4 Frazier & Foreman could maybe crush him. McCall's competition tended to be bigger, & Lewis landing massive shots when he was defenseless during a mental health breakdown was not denting him.

Cobb was great, was sparked in MMA though.
Mercer hit the canvas past his prime, Tua was down, McCall fought forever.
That he could stay upright with years of drug problems means he must be a true genetic outliar.

Nobody smaller than something north of 200 lbs. in the ring is going to take shots from those that size or larger as well as the best who fight at HW (or perhaps a rehydrated CW.

Tell me what you think-who if anyone, in absolute terms, has as proven a chin as McCall, & why?

    McCall at heavy,

JCC for P4P, until it was finally busted against Randal in what was like his 90th fight,

most already mentioned... McCall, Chuvalo, Tex Cobb, but also Vitali.

Mercer was stopped in 20 seconds in a kickboxing fight too, so I don't think outside of boxing should count, as a kick, choke, knee, elbow etc is too different from a boxing punch.
Still, I think it's McCall as you claim.

The number 1 spot is NOT debatable in any way!

    1. "Irish" Billy Collins (stood up to a guy whose knuckles were covered with plaster of Paris and almost no padding in the gloves, and who between rounds was given the same illegal stamina-increasing substance that Aaron Pryor used against Alexis Arguello)

These other guys are really close to each other and can be moved around:

    2. Jake LaMotta
    3. Marvin Hagler
    4. George Chuvalo
    5. Danny Garcia

You have to consider who their opponents were. These guys were never floored - LaMotta and Hagler each suffered a fake knockdown in which they were pushed down, but those don't count of course. If Danny Garcia can stand up to Spence, he definitely deserves to be on the list, as he has already stood up to hard-hitters Holt, Matthysse, Khan, Thurman and Porter.

Vitali Klitschko was floored by Corrie Sanders at the very end of either round 1 or 2 (I can't remember which). Ref called it a slip but it was a real knockdown.

Floyd Mayweather was floored by Zab Judah in round 3. Again, the ref made a mistake.

At the end, you can see Billy's trainer catch and hold Resto's glove as he calls the commissioner to inspect them.

says HEAVYWEIGHT in all caps in the title...

So that instantly dq's Collins, LaMotta, Hagler and Garcia from your list... Chuvalo counts though.

McCall and Chuvalo for me are the heavyweight standard for iron chins that all other chins are compared too.

Mercer is just below them, he took sickening shots off of Lewis, uppercuts that had Vitali hurt he took like he'd been hit with a light jab. Yes he was stopped by Wlad but by then he was past his prime, probably shot.

Then below them you have guys like Vitali, Tyson, Holyfield etc.

Mavrovic too deserves honourable mention, other than Mercer I've never seen anyone take combinations off Lewis and not even be phased. Same with Ibeabuchi, he took shots off Tua round after round and never looked hurt.
