    Firstly,

I have put this in classic forum because I have already seen that the consensus among the general posters is PBF. However, my pre-war knowledge is not the best so I wanted some classic posters opinions and breakdowns of other contenders for this crown. I have included a poll which outlines the six names which immediately come to mind for me. But anybody care to make a case for any of the above, or anyone else for that matter?

In my opinion Floyd runs very close, but I'd probably put Nelson and Kobayashi above him

I chose Floyd and Arguello, as they're usually very difficult for me to seperate, and you gave us a multiple choice poll. Odd that Nelson is leading over both, but he was definitely top 5.

Sweet Pea -- In my opinion seperating the two depends, at least to a large degree, on how many rounds the fight is scheduled for. If it's 12 rounds, PBF wins a narrow, possibley split, decision. If it's 15 rounds, Arguello stops PBF in the 14th or 15th round. There is no questioning Floyd's defense. However, Alexis was an absolute master at figuring out the other guy's game. I just can't see Floyd avoiding the left hook to the body, and the right hand headshot for a full 15 rounds.

Mayweather used to spar 15miniute rounds, and pretty much trains for 15round fights, he has never been tired at the end of a fight and is known for having the best stamina.

I see Arguello either getting beat to the punch or countered silly depending on what game Mayweather plays.

Arguello doesn't bring the speed or pressure to trouble Mayweather too much.

Whats your view on Azumah Nelson? Think, by the looks of things, I rate him much higher than most on ESB

I think he gives Mayweather a more difficult time(possibly a loss?) than someone like Arguello.

I think Arguello was fantastic, but I think Floyd's style would be hell for him. Over 15 Alexis stands a better chance, but if the fight is not stopped, and it is hard to see Floyd being stopped at this weight, I see Floyd taking a clear Decision.

I personally think Chavez was better at 135 and 140 than his younger days at 130. He was more technical and disciplined at higher weights, not as open.

Me too, but his name came up in previous discussions so thought I'd include him in the poll.

Inluded Ted Morgan as his name came up too, but I dont have enough knowledge of him to argue either way really, so was kind of hoping an old timer would break him down for me

He is a great fighter but not in the upper echelons. His performances against the best 2 boxer movers he faced in Whitaker and Sanchez showed both his weaknesses and level to an extent. I can't see anything other than a wide UD for Mayweather if they squared off.

It may hurt Nelson that he never got to fight Sanchez when he was nearer to his prime, maybe he would have done better. But I think Sanchez always beats Nelson

Nelson was a physical beast with amazing physical gifts but technically not elite.

I would also question if Casamayor and Corrales may have gone down as great 130lbers if they didnt share their era with a certain Mayweather

Shouldn't Chavez be on the list? I'd see him as the main threat to Mayweather

There are actually a few guys that have a legitimate shot of being #1.

Floyd Mayweather, Alexis Arguello, Julio Cesar Chavez, Azumah Nelson, and possibly Brian Mitchell all warrant consideration for the number one slot. Could also include Kid Chocolate, as well.

I don't think it's about stamina, and AA never relied much on speed and pressure. He tended to sharp shoot until he hurt the his opponent, and then finish him rather brutally. It's about Arguello's uncanny ability to figure the other guy out. Put that with the fact that AA could change the course of a fight with a single punch from either hand, and I just can't see PBF making the full 15 rounds. 12 rounds, yes. 15 rounds, no.
