I really like the way Crisanto Espana went about his business with Meldrick Taylor. I thought that dude would a more significant fighter.
Napoles Vs Cokes I, Sanchez-Lopez and Harada-Gingpet I are 3 of the best filmed title acquisitions via dominance I can think of that have already been mentioned. Bus Station-Betulio and McLarnin-YCIII are two of the best non-filmed that have already been mentioned. 'Chucho' Castillo-Olivares II, Starling-Honeyghan, Navarette-Boza, Duran-Buchanan/Leonard/Moore, Harada-Jofre I, Rose-Harada, Sahaprom-Chuvatana are all favourite filmed title-winning performances of mine, and hold up as impressive victories for different reasons.
Nat Fleischer stopped watching boxing after witnessing Ebihara's satanic left hand of evil destroying terrified Pone in 1 second.
Very good shout. What would you say is the better win? Harada stomping Gingpet or Ebihara decimating him? [yt]KWKbiigPrWY[/yt] I think maybe Pone thought 'this is gonna' be like Harada but more painful'. He could've got up and taken more of a beating IMO.
Nonsense.:bart Pone was dead. Only Thai magic resurrected him back from the dead. Personally, I prefer knockouts over stoppages by featherfisters. But Harada performance was outstanding. Hard to find a better looking flyweight - he looked like he could beat anyone not named Pichit. Ebihara's performance was more like something early Pacquiao could have done (but never did) - it was more like "damn, this guy is one dangerous puncher. We'd better avoid him for a while". So, in other words, yes, El Nica KO1 Denkaosan Kaovichit is the greatest fly-victory.
A lot of great mentions here, one that i htink is very underrated is Hattons winning performance over Kostya Tyuzu.Ive got this one on dvd, must have watched it half a dozen times now. I know the Russian was a bit past his prime by that point, but he was still good enough to destroy Sharmba Mitchell in his previous fight, in quicker and more devastating fashion than Mayweather would a year later. The fight just came at just the right time for Hatton, bang at a time when hew as the peak of his powers. And you can see that in his performance, brings unbelievable workrate and pressure and just breaks Tyuzu's heart over the long stretch. Its made even more impressive when you realize that Hatton's style was made for Kostya, he had to walk through some big shots from one of the biggest light-welterweight punchers ever. Id consider this one of the best displays of infighting from the last decade, Hatton's strength on the inside was immense, his bodypunching was class, and his work in the clinch great, often raking Tyuzu with shots with one free hand. Cant really think of a better inside fighter from recent years than a prime Hatton, other than Maybe Jose Luis Castillo.
Three of my all time favorites...but not very original... Robinson/LaMotta 6 and Leonard/Duran I, Leonard/Hagler. Got to add Napoles/Cokes...all time performance. Always thought Nelson beating a past best Wilfredo Gomez in PR was a pretty good win...
In terms of its aesthetic value, Terry Norris' one round obliteration of a faded, but still dangerous John "The Beast" Mugabi was pretty impressive.
Foreman-Frazier would probably be my pick as the #1 all-time greatest title winning performance. What unfolded in that fight was almost beyond belief. To this day, I still have trouble fathoming what happened in that fight. Armstrong-Ross, Olivares-Rose, Monzon-Benvenuti, and Sanchez-Lopez also rank among the best title winning performances IMO. Honorable mentions IMO: Cerdan-Zale Gavilan-Bratton Moore-Maxim Rose-Harada
