I have to say I am extremely impressed with the job Steward has done with Wlad. It is the perfect combination of a very talented but highly flawed fighter meeting up with the right trainer who helps him maximize his game ...

What other trainer/fighter team stands out in boxing history ...

Ed Futch gave Muhamad Ali all of his relevant career defeats.

If I had to fight a prime Ali tomorrow I would beg Futch to train me.

It may be a bit corny, but Billy Muldoon may still hold the award for somehow whipping John L in physical and mental shape for the Kilrain fight.

I like the Job Futch protege Freddie Roach did recently with Pacquiao for the DLH fight. I heard a pre-fight interview with him and he described how the bout would transpire to a T.

Roach also said Pacquiao would ko Hatton early.

Not to mention all the other things he achieved and strategies he implemented. I am in awe of him.

I know. I guess I just don't hold Hatton in as high of esteem as others seem to. And DLH will never leave openings like a Ricky Hatton does.

Hearns and Steward were a very good partnership.

Steward too is a tactical genius.

This is a blast from the past....I seem to recall reading about endless hours of roadwork Muldoon had John L do.

Tommy Brooks preparing Evander Holyfield for Mike Tyson. He brought in David Tua and Gary Bell to mimic Tysons fighting style, and laid out the gameplan on how to wear Tyson down.

Not even Futch ever had a fighter beat a prime Ali.

If Futch had Frazier or Norton at his disposal during Ali's prime he would have had a damn good chance of handing him his first career loss.

It is not a coincidence that Frazier and Norton were both Futch fighters.

If I had to steer Jimmy Braddock to a win over Muhamad Ali or be shot the first thing I would do is contact Futch.

Great call on Muldoon .. There was a terrific article written by a woman reporter who visited John L. in his training camp for the Kilran fight and it was facinating to read her first hand comments and observations on a young , focused Sullivan ... anyone know the one ? It was republished many times over ...
