Yeah, it's rare to have 3 very good fights in one trilogy. Ali-Frazier 2 was dull. Gatti-Ward 2 and 3 were not dull, but rather one-sided. The 2nd fight was alright, it had one terrific round. Barrera-Morales 2 was alright. All 3 bouts in Vazquez-Marquez were excellent. I also felt that way about Bowe-Holyfield. Some people didn't like the 3rd match as much, especially the crowd because as Larry Merchant said, they couldn't see as much because the action was at such close quarters. Watching it on TV, the in-fighting of the two was brilliant stuff, and it had drama too, as Holyfield nearly stopped Bowe when he looked done in the previous round.
real hard to decide between mab-erik and issie and raf. but becuase all of rafa and issies fights were classic slugfests. i would go with them. the rematch between mab and erik wasn't a great slugfest
People are actually voting for Pac-Morales? atsch Barrera vs Morales for me. Their first fight was unbelievable, and I'm bias because Barrera is my all time favourite fighter.
I take the designation "greatest" to mean the most significant. Out of the past twenty years no trilogy has been more significant than the Holyfield/Bowe trilogy. Their fights reshaped the heavyweight landscape each time. If holyfield had won his first encounter with Bowe - he would most likely have agreed to the WBC's mandate to defend against #1 contender Lennox Lewis. Holyfield lost. Bowe refused to fight Lewis. History unfolded as we experienced it. The list is near endless for the influence this series had upon the boxing landscape. If you mean greatest as in most entertaining trilogy - then I would go with the Barrera/Morales trilogy. Their rivalry ignited the lower weightclasses resulting in a magnificent round robin also involving Pacquiao and Marquez.
