Being no quitter is not enough IMO. It's just normal. Gatti showed a lot of heart and determination in DLH fight, that doesn't make him a world class fighter, does it?
Trinidad is very underated nowadays theres no shame getting beat by hopkins, jones and winky thats 2 first entry hof and winky probably gets in as well. He beat a lot of good fighters and never lost in his prime weight and his last 2 defeats came after long layoffs.
He is a great welterweight who didn't beat fighters he ruined them. Has one of the most brilliant offenses in boxing history and is the 2nd best finisher (behind joe louis) in the sports history imo. Thats not to say he wasn't without faults but only against the absolute elite could these faults be exploited.
The bottomline is: how many Greats he defeated [with his excellent offensive skils]? Only one controvercial win and destructive losses. Still, people idolise him and his career as awhole, not only offense.
I personally dont think you have to defeat greats to be 1 imo he destroyed alot of very good fighters like oba carr who i believe was undefeated at the time and a solid contender, yory boy campas when he was in his prime and undefeated, Oscar De la Hoya constroversially but a win nonetheless, David Reid when he was a top prospect and a prime Fernando Vargas who was coming off a win over ike Quartey and William Joppy in his first fight at middleweight. The great things about these wins is he destroyed all of them with the exception of oscar and none where ever the same fighters after stepping in the ring with tito.
hahahahaha please, if the fought now oscar would flog him, assuming trinidad could get his fat ass down to say 160.........so we wont hold our breath on that one.
Beating Yory Campas the way he did IMHO was one the greatest accomplishments Tito had in his career. At the time Yory Boy 56-0 was considered by "many" to be the next JCC out of Mexico and Tito was basically "forced" to fight him. Campas knocked him down in round 2 only to be KTFO himslef in the next round. I heard that Campas is still looking for his teeth that he lost that night.
So a bum like Campas is his greateat accomplishment!? I knew that! But I didn't know Tito was forced to fight him :rofl Tito who "ducked noone"! LMAO
He beat a prime Yory Boy Campas in a much more convincing manner than De la Hoya did years later i think the vargas win is probably the best win on his record.
