This is just my initial thoughts, not ranked, and I've almost certainly missed ones that deserve inclusion. I don't want to give any extra credit for winning when not at your best, or historical significance just the merits of the victory itself. Bob Fitzsimmons beating James J Corbett Bob Fitzsimmons beating Gus Ruhlin Bob Fitzsimmons beating Tom Sharkey Owen Moran beating Battling Nelson Packey McFarland beating Mike Gibbons Young Peter Jackson beating Sam Langford Sam Langford beating Joe Jeanette Sam Langford beating Sam McVea Sam Langford beating Harry Wills Harry Greb beating Gene Tunney Harry Greb beating Billy Miske Harry Greb beating Tommy Gibbons Henry Armstrong beating Barney Ross Sandy Saddler beating Willie Pep Willie Pep beating Sandy Saddley Sugar Ray Robinson beating Jake LaMotta Randy Turpin beating Sugar Ray Robinson Charley Burley beating Archie Moore Ezzard Charles beating Jersey Joe Walcott Ezzard Charles beating Joe Louis Joe Frazier beating Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali beating George Foreman Roberto Duran beating Sugar Ray Leonard Sugar Ray Leonard beating Tommy Hearns Evander Holyfeild beating Riddick Bowe Roy Jones Jr beating James Toney Roy Jones Jr beating John Ruiz James Toney beating Evander Holyfeild Floyd Mayweather beating Saul Alvarez Obviously not all these are on the same level, if you're feeling enthusiastic, I'd love to see a ranking. Please add any I missed
Holyfield defeating Tyson (1st fight) has to be on there and I'd suggest Nigel Benn over Gerald McClellan. Others to consider : Bernard Hopkins defeating Felix Trinidad Marco Antonio Barrera defeating Naseem Hamed Also a little criticism of your list - Toney's win over Holyfield should not be on there while it was a great performance by JT Holyfield was almost 10 years past his prime by then and I'd also put a question mark over RJJ's win over Toney, again on paper a great win but JT was badly weight drained and looked a shell of himself.
Imo: Pep beating Saddler LaMotta beating SRR Louis beating Schmeling Frazier beating Ali Ali beating Foreman Marciano beating Charles (second fight) Marciano beating Walcott (first fight) Sullivan beating Kilrain Duran beating Leonard Dempsey beating Willard Dempsey beating Firpo Dempsey beating Fulton Dempsey beating Sharkey Greb beating Tunney Walcott beating Charles (third fight) Braddock beating Baer Foreman beating Moorer Douglas beating Tyson Sorry for so many
Ali was in far better shape when he met Foremen than the shape he was in for the Frazier fight. Bowe was out of shape against Holy. Toney couldn`t cut the ring of vs Roy, Griffin fought much better against RJ and threw far more counters as did a 39 year old McCallum during the early rounds of his bout vs Jones. Ruiz was awful and wouldn`t throw any leads, he just stood there waiting. Holyfield was too old vs Toney. Canelo fought the wrong fight vs Floyd during the first half of their bout and is twice the fighter he was back then now.
Tyson was awful vs Douglas. Foreman was being beat before he caught the weak chinned Moorer. Here`s a thing Douglas may have been able to beat Moorer and the Foreman may have beaten Mike as he was in Tokyo!
Tyson was past his prime vs Holy, McClelan had no defense at all vs Benn and Naz was falling off balance after he punched and simply got exposed by one of the fastest counter punchers in history.
It was real life David vs Goliath. The 5ft 5 inch, 180 pound Joe Louis slayed the 7ft 4, 380 pound giant. It goes down as not only the greatest victory in boxing history, but sporting history.
I'm probably going to regret this but I'll respond to you anyway : Tyson had won two world titles in impressive fashion prior to beating Holyfield, was he past his best ?? Yes but so was Holyfield who has just been stopped by Bowe and lost to Moorer. EH was a huge underdog and expected to be stopped inside 3 rounds instead he stood his ground and destroyed Tyson's aura forever. McClellan was a devastating and feared puncher, expected to be an ATG in the making most people believed, a huge favourite against the supposedly washed up Nigel Benn. Naseem Hamed was undefeated, had won every world title there was at Featherweight and had effectively cleaned out the division, again Barrera was the underdog and in his first fight at FW dominated the lineal champ.
I think you deserve credit for good wins when past it, but just for the criteria here, I don't want to give any extra credit for the winner not being at their best, just who they beat and how they did it.
