It was amazing to watch! I wasnt there for the Mayweather bout but I was there for the Pacquiao bout and that was an awesome weigh in too (The Fillipino fans were a class act by the way) but you still got the sense that it wasnt quite the same somehow. Maybe less tension between the fighters and the fans and more of a party atmosphere?!
I miss Ricky Hatton! Don't really care how good you thought he was, he and his fans made for a great fight atmosphere!
brit fans all loyal and supportive of their boxer, ESB approves. pac fans do the same, ESB hates. wow. double standards.
I was at this fight. The atmosphere was out of this world. No other fight that I have been to is close.
Im not British but i can tell you, not only for boxing, they are one of if not the most loyal fans in the world. Many big people say, "Don't support me at my best if you can't support me at my worst". Why must a man, embarrassed infront of all the world, on the floor have to stand up alone. I would pay billions to have the loyal fans he has.
If your football/baseball/basketball team loses, do you support another team until they lose? Why should boxers be any different?
It wasn't meant to be a confusing comment. And you're right, you would never see Americans celebrate an embarrassing loss. There isn't much of an "it's okay to be a loser" attitude in America as there is the UK.
Boxing promotes more Glory supporting than any other sport. If your football team loses, you don't stop supporting them. And you applaud them if you're proud of there efford. We were proud of hattons effort. He went out on his shield. The fact that america would turn on a fighter for going out on his shield tells you everything you need to know about the American people.
The loyalty to Hatton was great but in all honesty the atmosphere come fight night was annoying as ****. Terrible, dumb singing "walking in a winter wonderland blah blah blah" over and over and over again. It was the probably the most repetitive, mind numbing and distracting cheer I've ever heard, right up there with the stupid wuwuzelas. When Hatton's head hit the turn buckle, I was glad cause I didn't want to listen to that lame song any more.
Seems to be the way in America. Dont their Football teams just **** off to a different city and set up there and get new fans from the new city. Strange. Anyway, great vid and great fans. The Irish fans got criticised in Euro 2012 by some quarters (namely that twat Roy keane) for singing when we were 4-0 down against Spain. I guess some people think you should only sing when you're winning :conf
