Cheers. For what it's worth, I've seen film of that fight, which is incomplete, and I thought Gibbons was edging things, in the remaining footage, too.
Jimmy McLarnin beat Canzoneri in his second from last, then in his final bout beat Lou Ambers, both by UD, and by all accounts gave Tony a frightful beating, not bad.... stay safe guys.
Swag, possibly the back to back bouts with Jerry Quarry and Leotis Martin took a toll on him. I would say especially the Martin fight because for years I would read in Boxing News from some of the wags that witnessed that contest that it was absolutely hellacious. Amazing how there isn't a scrap of film on it. I also heard Spencer and his drinking buddy Eddie Machen were during some hard-partying on the coast as well. When Thad fell, he fell hard.
Yeah I heard Spencer's loss to Martin was BRUTAL. Ironically, I don't think Terrell himself was ever quite the same after his bout with Ali, which he took hellascious punishment in.
Ayub Kalule over Sumbu Kalambay. Controversial, but better than any of his wins as a champion at 154. Lost his next fight against Herol Graham and never fought again. Pedro Flores over Yoko Gushiken. Gave light flyweight champ Gushiken his first loss and sent him into retirement. Got knocked out in his first defense, got outpointed by countryman Lupe Madera, and packed it in.
Eddie 'Motorboat' Logan - I was looking at his record today and I had watched his win over Alfonso Zamora a few years back and realized that that win was a great addition to this thread. Man, the dude went from clubfighter to giving Superfly Sandoval and Albert Davila a hard time before the fight with Zamora. The Zamora fight would make you think of the Liston-Martin fight. Logan was down and cut but came back to stop Zamora in the 9th. Amazingly, there on the threshold of big things, he was gone. No idea whatever happened to Motorboat.
