A company was advertising it a few years ago, they were trying to sell it as the actual fight.I contacted two historians and a fight film collector who all confirmed the fight was not filmed. As did Gilbert Odd in his bio of Fitz and Adam Pollack in his bio of Jeffries.
This content is protected This content is protected If you think any of the guys in these films could beat you, I don't know what to say. They aren't any better than the guys you see on the "worst boxers" vids on YouTube. The guys people laugh at. But since these guys were revered in their day and still so, we're supposed to act like they aren't terrible? That says alot for how far reputation gets you.
Who knew humanity turned into a race of superhumans since 1900, so that the elite from that day would be beaten by random people on message board today. What caused it, devine intervention? Aliens? A spell by a mecha-wizard? Or is it just the power of a sedetry lifestyle, fastfood in every town, and obesity?
Sit down little ***** boy. You'd get a love tap on the nose and decide boxing wasn't the life for you in a real fight. 1900 or 2019. Book it.
You do know that the Courtney "bout" was no bout at all just goofing for a camera between a rank amateur and a champion. The filming was the focus, the sporting action secondary. In regards to the Fitz-Corbett match-up, it is oddly one that I enjoy watching quite a bit. You have to concentrate a repeat parts because of the degradation of the film and the general quality of filming at that time but there is some good fighting going on there, sometimes surprisingly modern. And given that Fitz owned pretty much everyone within 40 pounds of his own weight, and brutalized most of them, one must consider him on par with the modern supermen. I mean, how much better would he have to be in order to qualify in their ranks?
Even if their technique is as bad as you say it is, you would still last eleven seconds including the count!
Corbett is still hammering that guy. They're throwing real punches. They may be goofing, but he blasts the dude with a right and drops him. The technique is horrendous from both. I've watched the Fitz-Corbett several times. It is entertaining and they have their moments of decency. Overall, its pretty bad. No doubt Fitz had power. I'm not doubting that. The clean punches are few and far between though. I'm sure if he gets a clean shot at you, it'll count. Haha at these guys taking it personal when I say that though... They get so personal and so butthurt...
How do you know that? You don't. There's no way you can. You just make yourself look bad by saying things like that. So dramatic.... You're putting more weight in the reputation and reports than on what you actually see, or you don't know what you're looking at and are therefore clueless, so maybe you should take a seat. If I had said the same about Spinks or Benn or literally anyone else with some skill, yes, call me crazy, call me what you will. I could have never come close to even bothering them in a ring, let alone beating them and no other normal person could either. Just watch those films and tell me those guys beat you. If you think they do, well that's what it is then. You probably have never trained in boxing in that case (nothing wrong with that) and what you said about me actually applies to you. I've been hammered in a ring plenty by amateurs and professionals and nobodies like myself. "Tapped on the nose" plenty. But I can slip a right hand and I can defend myself. Not because I think I'm a badass, but because I have done it over years. No different than anyone else who has learned to box. I was never that great and don't think much of myself as I previously stated, but you don't have to be that great to see those punches coming and counter those guys you see on the film. If you can't see that, that's on you. And you're right, it isn't any way I ever wanted to make a living. Insults just make you look bad. It's in poor taste. I didn't insult your moms, so put away your torches and pitchforks, geez...
Lets do an experiment here: Find Aleksander Usky, ask him to fight with that style, and see how long you last!
