Next in the series after Max Baer In three categories Best win: In terms of quality of opponent, and manner of victory Most important win: In terms of historical significance Most spectacular performance: Not really the quality of the win, just a great display of the champion's ability. I doubt there will be too much debate in this one. Even though I'd pretty much decided before hand, I still wanted to watch his fights again. Best win: Max Baer, I guess you could make the case for Farr, if you think Farr was better that night, but I think the Baer fight was a much cleaner win. Though I think people calling the Farr fight a robbery are wrong, it does seem to have been extremely close, and a draw maybe being fairer. Most important win: Max Baer This content is protected Most spectacular performance: Joe Louis, he really went out on his shield in this one This content is protected
I actually wonder if the reason for Baer's poor performance was depression, would explain why he seemed so absent and distracted.
Baer also could've half assed it out of pity for Braddock's situation "Braddock can use the title, he has 3 children to feed. I don't even know how many children I have" -Baer Also I agree with your picks completely
I'd have to agree with you, pretty straight forward. His fight against Baer is overlooked when talking about Upsets Douglas, McCall, Rahman and Ali reap all the praise
Except for the Baer win, I think his greatest was his kayo of Jimmy Slattery. Farr was a nice win, though disputed, but it didn't have much meaning in the great scheme of things since Braddock wisely retired immediately afterward. The Slattery fight earned him the title shot against Loughran. The Latzo and Tuffy Griffiths wins were important in this regard as well. Obviously, the Corn Griffin, Art Lasky, and John Henry Lewis wins were important in getting him the shot at Baer, but without Braddock's earlier success as a light heavyweight, he never would have been given those opportunities.
