    - That win over a prime Taylor would, in itself, be grounds for considering Chavez great. It established all that was brilliant about Chavez, in spite of the controversy. That's what makes a win into a career defining win.

    - Whitaker's win over Chavez (forget about the comedy from the judges) is also the fight for which I will always remember him and in itself establishes him as an ATG.

Like I said before both great wins but neither fighter´s career is defined by them. At least not by me. People are too fast with superlatives IMO. Career defining, atg and so on are used far too losely.

Hm, btw. what about Roberto Duran? I don´t think he has the one fight that defined his career. He had several.

But if i'm wrong i was only kidding about P4P, i meant Welterweight.

But i'm sure he was no.2 P4P at the time. Only joking, maybe.

He was lower end top 10, number 8 or 9 if I remember correctly. I don't think he was ranked at welterweight.

November 2007 Ring Magazine rankings I believe:

    1. FLOYD MAYWEATHER
    2. MANNY PACQUIAO
    3. JUAN MANUEL MARQUEZ
    4. BERNARD HOPKINS
    5. JOE CALZAGHE
    6. ISRAEL VAZQUEZ
    7. WINKY WRIGHT
    8. RAFAEL MARQUEZ
    9. RICKY HATTON
    10. MIGUEL COTTO

Thank you ... my point entirely ...

Huge difference between Frazier's victory over Ali and Dempsey destroying a 37 year old Willard ... both career defining but not the same level of achievement ..

Going in Monzon-Naploes a huge superfight. Monzon won big.
Bob Foster had a huge win, knocking out the great Dick Tiger in brutal fashion. That fight immediately springs to mind when I think of Foster.
