Greb was amazing in that last fight, he averaged, 22,222 punches per minute which is 66,666 per round. which is about 370 per second with hand speed about a tenth the speed of light... that's not bad.

I wonder what caused the turnaround in the two months between the 2nd and 3rd fight ?... a marked difference.

So, he worked at approximately 1/2 the rate of Les Darcy?

And about 1/4 rate of Crocodile Dundee?

The fights were at middleweight or light heavyweight. Why the "heavyweights" in the thread title?

Gibbons was no heavyweight, as Senya points out.

I've always doubted the accuracy of the "million punches" Greb was supposed to have thrown in that fight. I think reports of fights with no film to back them up really do need to be treated with some scepticism.

It sounds like the rain is what made the difference. Without the rain, Greb probably would have only thrashed Gibbons 1-3 rather than 2-2.

Oh, geez that darcy musta been fast.... I was just quoting the report it said Harry threw a million punches and I thought to myself.... here is a good exercise in mathematics.

Obviously he meant Greb threw a lot of punches and of that I have no doubt.

    his accuracy was amazing too, i make it exactly 100%. "1922-03-13 163½ Tommy Gibbons 171 38 0 1 W UD 15/15
Madison Square Garden, New York, New York, USA
referee: Billy 'Kid' McPartland judges: Tommy Shortell, Patsy Haley
A detailed account of this fight is given in the New York Times. Greb landed "a million punches" and had the upper hand throughout. Mrs. Greb was present at this fight. One report states "...Greb threw a million punches but never hurt Gibbons as he seldom set.."

Per NY Times Greb outpointed Gibbons 2 to 1, that means Gibbons had thrown half a million punches himself, I guess one needed to record it at 1000 fps and then watch in slow motion to really appreciate it.

Did Greb have an umbrella? If Greb won 4 rounds and drew one BEFORE the rain started then how do you figure the rain is a solid excuse for Gibbons losing?

Depends who was the best slippery boxer, I suppose.
