He fought there in an armed forces tournament during WW1 while he was in the Navy. He was only there for a couple of weeks and hated it. I think his quote upon returning was "Id wouldnt trade the whole southside of Pittsburgh for all of London." Or something to that effect. It didnt help that the weather was horrible at the time.
