Greb or Sullivan: Which pill are you taking?

John L. Sullivan, HIMSELF! And the 1880's in living color! WOW!

 

Possibly Sullivan and under LPR, any vision of a fight under said rules being a singular rarity in its own right.

As others have already said, crystal clear vision of the 1880s would be very cool also.

That’s not to dismiss the option of Greb out of hand because it is a very tough choice.

It’s not as if there isn’t rare footage of other fighters that we do actually have that hasn’t disappointed some/many viewers in some way, in so far the reputable fighter not looking as good as some might’ve expected.

I don’t know that Greb would necessarily greatly disappoint if disappoint at all in that regard - personally, of all his fights, I’d like to see the one in which he kicked Tunney’s arse.

Nothing against Gene, I just think it would be a good fight to see.

 

If they’re suppositories, I’ll take neither thank you very much. My daily intake of roughage ensures that I am perfectly regular.

Joking aside we could probably learn more from the Sullivan footage.

Yes Greb is a puzzle wrapped up in an enigma, but we have a wealth of footage of the other top fighters of his era.

 

Greb-Tunney 1 would be my Arc of the Covenant.

That said, pour me a whiskey and I might smash the Sullivan button. In fact I probably would.

 

Especially for the era and perhaps the somewhat broader acceptance of heavy drinking as at the time, the fact that John L kicked the booze and lectured against it was one of his greatest victories and pay forwards imo. He also didn’t fall into line and picked Johnson over Jeffries - the photo of John L shaking Johnson’s hand is an absolute gem.
