Excellent point and I agree. End the B.S. and bring the fight game back to it's prominent status in the world of sports. It's all about money now,not proving to the world that you're the best in your division and not being afraid to lose a fight and thus more money. Fighters seem to have too much say in who they'll fight and when they'll fight. want the money? Then fight the deserving challengers and fight more than once or twice a year.

I imagine he ran 10 miles sometimes (probably with a Fartlek method) and this got blown out of proportion into "often" then "regularly" then "all the time" and then "every day". The same goes for Rocky Marciano.

Shocking your system with a new style of training is a good idea. However, it's not like someone who fought as often as Greb would be lacking for exercise.

    What about Marciano?

Why did none of this happen to him?

I hear running long distances makes you impotent...

Apart from the obvious benefits they ran long distances because if you can move your feet for so long without stopping then you can move your feet in the ring for that long...makes sense doesnt it. That's why a lot of old timers are always moving in the ring

Of course it does, there is scientific evidence a mile long that shows that regular endurance work does all those things.

Long distance isn't hard work anyway, it's stupid work. It's low intensity, you're training your body to work at low intensities. Anyone can run 20 miles a day, you just run under your lactate threshold and you can burn your unlimited supply of fat, and run all day.
Sprint for a minute and compare that to how you feel after running 10 miles, what do you think is forcing your body to adapt to a higher level more?
Long distance running isn't used as a training method in the majority of sports now days, and for good reason.

The human body is built for low intensity work, so it's really not hard to train your body to compete over long distances. It's what the human body is designed for as a hunting tool.

If I was a fighter, I'd do lots of short burst training with small gaps in between exercises. I wouldn't run for 10 miles a day.
